The Golf and Polo GTI and R models are the Volkswagens we see most often, usually fitted with 18 to 19 inch multi-spoke alloys. Golf R models commonly run a staggered set (wider at the rear) and lower-profile performance tyres, which gives the rim less cushioning against kerbs and potholes than the thicker tyres on a standard Golf. Diamond cut faces are common on GTI and R alloys, often paired with a black or grey painted spoke, and gloss black is a popular aftermarket and factory option across the range. Standard Golf and Polo models tend to run simpler silver or grey painted alloys.

Kerb damage to the rim edge is the most common issue on Volkswagen alloys, along with buckled wheels from potholes and corroded diamond cut faces on GTI and R models. A buckled wheel is checked and straightened, or welded if cracked, before any cosmetic work starts. For a diamond cut Golf GTI or R wheel, the corroded or chipped area is re-cut on a precision lathe and resealed with fresh lacquer. For a standard painted alloy, we match the original silver or grey shade with a fresh powder coat.

We look over every wheel first and find each kerb mark, crack and buckle before any work starts.
Step 2: We repair it
Buckles are straightened and cracks are welded in the workshop, before any cosmetic work.
Step 3: We refinish it
The wheel is powder coated or diamond cut to match, then checked, balanced and ready to refit.

Yes. The corroded or chipped area is machined away on a precision lathe and resealed with fresh lacquer, so the wheel matches the rest of the set.
Do Golf R wheels need to be refinished as a matching pair?
Golf R models often run a staggered set (different sizes front and rear), so a damaged wheel usually needs refinishing to match the other wheel on that axle.
What warranty do you offer on Volkswagen wheel work?
Powder coating and diamond cut refinishing come with a 3 year warranty. Crack repairs come with a 1 year warranty.
