BMW owners choose Alloy Fix for the same reason as any other brand: workshop-based repair and refurbishment at Romford, Dartford and Hemel Hempstead, with loan wheels available so you are not stuck without the car. What is different about BMW wheels is covered below.
Most BMWs run staggered wheels, a narrower tyre and wheel at the front than the rear, which is common on 3, 4 and 5 Series M Sport cars and on the M2, M3, M4 and M5. Staggered sets cannot be rotated front to rear, so if only one wheel is damaged it still needs to be refinished to match the other three. Diameters run large on M Sport and M Performance trims, typically 18 to 20 inches on the saloons and up to 21 inches on X5 and X7, and almost every modern BMW is fitted with run-flat tyres. A run-flat has a stiffer, shallower sidewall than a normal tyre, which gives the rim less cushioning when it hits a kerb or a deep pothole, so BMW alloys tend to pick up kerb damage and buckles more easily than a car on standard tyres. Common factory finishes include standard silver, Ferric Grey and Orbit Grey on M Sport cars, gloss black on M Performance models, and diamond cut faces on many of the multi-spoke and V-spoke designs. The double-spoke and V-spoke wheels show scuffs and corrosion clearly because the machined face sits proud of the spoke behind it.

This is one of our own jobs: the same wheel when it came in with tired, scuffed paint, and after a fresh diamond cut and refinish. Your BMW wheels go through the same process.

Typical damage
Common BMW wheel damage and how we fix it
The most common jobs we see on BMW alloys are kerb damage to the rim edge, corroded or cloudy diamond cut faces where the lacquer has chipped, and buckled wheels from potholes that show up as a vibration through the steering wheel. A buckled BMW wheel is checked and straightened, or welded if it is cracked, before any cosmetic work starts. For a diamond cut BMW wheel, the face goes back on a lathe so the corrosion can be machined away, then a fresh lacquer coat is applied. For a painted or powder coated BMW wheel, we match the exact shade, whether that is standard silver, Ferric Grey, Orbit Grey or a gloss black finish, so the repaired wheel blends in with the other three. Removing and refitting a BMW wheel also means handling the TPMS sensor correctly, since BMWs have fitted tyre pressure sensors as standard for many years and a damaged sensor means a dashboard warning light after the work is done.

If your BMW wheel is cracked, buckled or kerbed, start with alloy wheel repair. If it is just tired-looking, faded or you want a different colour, alloy wheel refurbishment is the right service, and diamond cut or powder coating covers both.
Not always, but most BMWs run staggered wheels (different sizes front and rear), so if one wheel is damaged it usually needs to be refinished to match the other three on that axle rather than swapped between front and rear.
Can a diamond cut BMW alloy be repaired if it has gone cloudy?
Yes. Cloudy or white patches on a diamond cut face are usually corrosion under a chipped lacquer. We re-cut the face on a lathe to remove it, then seal it with fresh lacquer.
What warranty do you offer on BMW wheel work?
Powder coating and diamond cut refinishing come with a 3 year warranty. Crack repairs come with a 1 year warranty.
